b. “For the word ‘We’ must never be spoken, save by one’s choice and as a second thought.”

How can these quotes be applied to your life?

92 comments:

  1. #1: Equality discovers the word “I” and uses it for the first time in this chapter. He also discovers individuality and freedom. He decides that the word “we” should never be spoken except by ones choice. (Pg.96) He discovers he owes nothing to his brothers. Most importantly he discovers he can choose his own path.
#2: Equality discovered that being and individual is not a bad thing. He learned that it doesn’t necessarily matter if the rest of society doesn’t approve of the way you live your life. It is your life not theirs. He learned that the purpose of his own life is to find his own happiness. To make himself happy he must become his own person.
Honors: A. I believe that the guiding star is knowledge. Wherever you go knowledge will always help you make wise decisions.
    B. Equality means that “I” should always be used before “we” because “we” takes away individualism.
In my life I use knowledge to help me make wise and educated decisions about my life. No matter which way I choose to follow I will always have the knowledge I have learned to help me. I believe that you should be yourself and do what is right no matter what society thinks of you or your choices. You are your own person and when it comes down to it, it doesn’t really matter what they thought of your life. It’s what you thought of your life that matters.

    6. So true! Every person DOES have their own decision in life!

  2. 2. Equality finally realizes that the purpose of his life is to be himself, and be happy. You shouldn't live under any ones command. Doing stuff you don't want to shouldn't be allowed. Your life should be lived knowing the meaning and feeling of joy, happiness, fear, and any emotions at all. Good or bad. Either way you will get through it and it might make you learn something. Equalitys goal is to not obey, love, or give things to people he doesn't want to. Its not his "job" to do so.

    3. The word "I" is like god because it gives you want you want in life. "I" is like the realization of being human. You are yourself. It can make you see things in a whole new way. Men are seeking this word like it is high above them, but really it is very simple. By knowing the word "I", joy, peace, and pride most of all will be be felt.

honors: A: Which ever road you take, or your choices, are the things leading you that way. You are your own guiding star because you make your own choices.

B This means that the word "we" is not a word that has to be spoken. You choose if you want to or not. You are your own person, therefor "we" is not how you refer to yourself. Only multiple people should use this.
Both of these quotes can be applied in my life because quote A is like the schedule i'm doing right now. It's my choice which classes i choose, and they will lead me a certain way in life. Quote B can relate because i have the freedom of speech.

  3. 1.Equality discovers individuality. He now realizes that instead of being part of the whole, he can be his own person. Equality begins to use the word I, for he now knows that he does not need to have we(p.96). His newly acquired freedom has led to a more religious background to the story(p.97). He has finally discovered the truth of life.
    3. "I" is a powerful word. It shows the individuality of a man. Equality Now understands that he is in control of his own life. This relates back to "Invictus", for it explains the individual. The choices of mankind can be described through a word such as "I", for it shows how a man can survive on his own.
Honors:a. It explains the option of choice. Each person is in control and leads there life wherever it may go.
    b. This quote expresses individuality. By using the word "we" a person is succumbing to conformation of the world.
These two quotes can both be used to determine how dependent or independent a person truly is.

  5. 1. In this chapter Equality discovers individuality, freedom, and the word “I”. He realizes that he should be living for himself and not his brothers. He also realizes that the word “we” should only be used when necessary and not all the time. (pg. 96)He found freedom by knowing that. Equality now knows that he can choose his own path in life.
    2. Equality now realizes that being an individual isn’t a bad thing. He knows that he can make his own decisions and not worry about his brothers or the council. Whatever choices he makes are up to him and he finds joy in that because in the end it will make him happy. It’s his life and he can make the decisions now. Equality is now his own person.
    a. To me, this quote means that no matter what you choose to do in life, it’s your decision and you guide yourself where you want to go.
    b. This means that “we” is not a word that has to be spoken. “We” is used when talking about more than one person, so it goes against individuality.
These quotes can be applied to my life. Quote A applies to my life because I recently scheduled my classes for next year and I signed up for some challenging courses. I made the decision to do so because I knew it would help me in the long run. Quote B applies to my life because I try to be independent.

  6. 1. Equality 7-2521 has made another discovery that could greatly improve his society and his life. He has discovered the word “I” (pg. 94). Now both he and Liberty 7-2521 can be themselves, their own individual people. With the discovery of this word each person is given their own identity and freedom. There is no more working for the great “We”. Each thought, idea, want, need, or anything else, belongs to one person and one person alone unless they should choose to share. This would help the society if they don’t go overboard with individualism. With the freedom of being a singular person and not just a group being told what to do then people would be more willing to do their jobs and actually like what they are doing. Each man has a right to decide what to do with their lives and because of Equality 7-2521 there is now someone to fight for that.

    4. The Saint of the Pyre was trying to show Equality 7-2521 the Unspeakable Word itself (pg. 51). A word made of only one letter but is the most important word in his society and this book. The word “I” is so important because it shows individuality. When saying “I” one is usually talking in a singular way, only one person, and not multiple people. He was trying to say that individuality and freedom were so important that the Saint of the Pyre was willing to die for them. The ability to be an individual should be fought for, not denied and forced into submission or into a “We”. Stand up for individuality no matter the cost, no matter what the society says or tries to do because the ability to make decisions for “Me” is always worth it.

Honors: The quotes have deep and powerful meanings. Quote A is saying that through one’s own personal beliefs and knowledge man will guide himself through his own life, making his own choices. B tells readers that they should only think of themselves as individuals, only using “We” if they want to not because they have to, and only if the others agree. Individuality takes more importance over a whole. Personally they help because they tell people that they are in charge of their own lives and decisions. The quotes say to rely on only on “me, myself, and I”. That doesn’t really apply to me because of my religion however. I may be able to make my own choices but I need to think of how they will affect those around me. I also believe that no matter what decision I make it is all part of the master plan of God, I don’t control my life, he does.

    3. I is definitely a benefit with society when used in proportion. If individualism becomes too strong then I is more of a curse than a blessing.

    4. When self-centered on I, it can destroy your life, but not enough attention can create a downfall. Overall, I is a benefit.

  7. 1. In this chapter, Equality discovers the word "I". The Council never alllowed anyone to know of the existence of this word. Nevertheless, he finds out the meaning and is shocked when he realizes what it means. He then declares that no man should ever again use the word "we" unless they choose to do so. (pg.96) Equality now understands that he can live for himself and owes nothing to the rest of mankind.
    3. The word "I" can be compared to a god because of its power. This incredibly small word has the power to separate group into individuals. Equality was overwhlemed at the discovery of this word and refuses to ever give it up. When Equality found this word, he instantly found peace of mind and knew he found what had been missing in life. He admires this word and treats it as a superior to all other words, much like we do with our god or gods.
Honors: A) This quote simply means that no matter what choices you make and which paths you take, it will eventualy lead you to where you were meant to be.
    B) This quote means that each person has the power to say what they want, without fear of punishment. Equality's intention in that quote is to encouarge others to be themselves and have the freedom that they deserve.
These quotes can be applied to my life in that they encouarge me to be an individual person. They express to me that I should be confident in who I am. These quotes tell me to not conform to the world and its interpretation of right and wrong. They also tell me to choose my own way of life and go in the direction I want. All of my choices will make me an individual person and take me to where I'm suposed to be.

  8. 1) In this chapter, Equality discovers not just the word "I" but personal pronouns in the singular form. He uses most of these newly discovered words in this chapter. After reading some of the books in the new house, he sees them and finds their meanings. This is one of the most important discoveries in the book.Equality also states that he will never use the word "we" when referring to himself ever again.

    2) Equality leaned his life is his to live and he can be individual in this chapter. He no longer thinks being unique is a terrible thing. Equality also realizes his goal is to live for himself. No one should do anything for anyone else if it is not going to benefit themselves. Equality does not live for the society as a whole, but lives for himself as a person.

    Honors
    a) No matter where you are, your own decisions determine what is going to become of you.
    b) "We" is not a word that represents individualism. It makes people not be able to make their own decisions.
These quotes can be applied in my life many ways. Quote A can be applied in my everyday life. I need to be able to make good decisions and be able to do it by myself. Quote B can be applied because I should put myself first. It will help me become my own person and finally be able to do what I want to.

  9. 2. Equality realizes that serving himself is the purpose of his life. Previously, he was bound by laws and serving his brothers, not himself. He realizes that he can live as an individual not working for the profit of other men. He also says that he owes nothing to his brothers.(page 96) He says that his friends will neither be slaves nor masters to him.

    4. The Transgressor was trying to tell Equality that the Unspeakable Word made him free. He was trying to show that it was worth it to say "I." He wanted to show that freedom is worth the pain. Out of all the people at the pyre, the Transgressor was the happiest one there.(page 50) The Transgressor was trying to tell Equality that he would soon discover the Unspeakable Word himself.

    Honors:
    A. This quote is saying that people should make their own decisions wherever they go.
    B. This quote is saying that an individual should have thoughts about himself before others.
These quotes can be applied to my life in various ways. The first quote can be applied when others try to influence me in bad ways. I can remember that I make my own decisions. The second quote can be applied when I have to sacrifice for someone or stay comfortable. If I was a self-centered jerk, this quote would be perfect for me and my well being.

  10. 1- In this chapter, Equality discovers the word "I". He was reading through a book that he found in the house, and he found the word. 13. 1. Equality discover the great gift of individuality. He knows know that he doesn't have to be like everyone else, he can be his own person. He had started using the word "I" in this chapter, and now hes going to start using it in his everyday speech(pg 96). He also teaches it the girl he likes, Liberty who starts using the word too. Also Equality mentions that he feels bad for humanity who hasn't discovered the word "I" yet.

    2. In this chapter Equality realizes life is about serving himself. Upon this happening he was always taught to serve among his brothers. He know longer thinks he has to please everyone else, just himself. Also nothing else should be done, unless there benefiting themselves. Lastly is nothing should be done for the society because there not helping themselves so what makes them thinking their helping anyone else.

Honors A.)I believe the quote means that he gets to choose his own path, and which ever way it leads. He can go anywhere and do anything because he is the chooser of his own pathway.

Honors B.)I believe that it means that "I" should come before "We". As an example you should come before someone else, say for example the society. Personally that just what i think it means.

The first quote i can relate to because i believe I am the chooser of my own destiny. I get to chose what happens next in my life, not anyone else. I can make my own decisions and do what i want. The second one i really can't relate to that much at all. I mean in a way i can, as though being selfish and thinking for yourself but im not really like that.

  14. #1: In this chapter Equality discovered the word "I". He found it when reading in the library. This word must have taken time to comprehend. The Council had forbidden the word "I" from all man's vocabulary. He now has even more potential than before. Equality sees the word "I" as a concept that is a way of life, like a religion (p. 97).

  15. 1- In this chapter, Equality discovers individuality. He finds the word 'I', and soon realizes the word 'we' is evil. He says, "For the word "we" must never be spoken, save by one's choice and as a second thought." (pg.96) It also says, "I am done with the monsters of "we," the word of serfdom, of plunder, of misery, falsehood, and shame. (pg.97) Equality's discovery has changed his life.
2- Equality now realizes that his proper goal in life is individualism. He says, "I need no warrant for being. I am the warrant and the sanction." (pg.94) Equality now knows he doesn't have to get up to do his routine made for him, or do his job that was picked by the council. Equality can do what he pleases and can make his own decisions. I think Equality still cannot believe that he has lived twenty-one years without knowing how to make his own decisions.
Honors: A) In life you take many journeys but it doesn't matter where you are, you can make your own decisions.
    B) 'We' is not to be spoken. The word goes against individuality and takes thought and/or decisions away from a person.
Both of these quotes are used in life. Quote A and B teach me that every one today is individual and it is a good thing. There is no one that is the same; everyone is different.

  16. #3: "I" is like a god to Equality (p. 97). Religion provides a guide line on how to behave. "I" could do that also. It would symoblize working for ones self or being true to ones self. God provides comfort, an understanding, and a figure of power. "I" could in a way provide all of that too. Equality has never been exposed to a theory like "I" so naturally it is easier for him to see it's potential as a source of religion or as a God.

    ReplyDelete
  17. honors: a. This quote deals with using ones brain and heart to make choices. The star that is described refers to the heart and brain. The road that is mentioned symbolizes life and the different choices a person might make. Equality is not going to follow anyone elses orders he is going to make choices for himself.

    b. This qoute sujests that oneself should be put before others. It is imolys in this statement that Equality believes a person should only think of other people in a positive light if the person wants to. People should be allowed to be individual. Equality is saying he dosent agree with the harsh laws of the Council that "We" is the center of being.

I belive both of these quotes are relevent to todays society. We make choices today that will effect our future and I believe thesw choices should come from within. No one eslse should make choices for others. I also believe people should be thought of as individual not as the great "We".

  18. 1. In this chapter, Equality discovers the word "I", and as a result, the concept of individuality. When he discovers it, all of a sudden the Earth begins to revolve around him. He ceases to acknowledge the will of others save those that he cares for. Through his discovery of the word "I", Equality becomes extremely selfish. Not only this, but it also sets him apart from the rest of society.

    2. The Saint of the pyre seems to look straight at Equality. When he does so, Equality believes that he is trying to send him a message. The Saint wishes for Equality to carry on the quest for individuality. He wished for Equality to learn the Unspeakable Word, and to teach it to others. He wished for collectivism to end.

    Honors:
Equality makes two very distinctive quotes in this chapter, both of which relate to his discovery of the word "I". The first quote means that he is in control of his life now, and he makes the decisions. The second means that never again should mankind fall into collectivism again through the belief in the word "we". These quotes cannot be applied to my life. I do not agree with hem and I have limited connection to them.

  20. A- In this quote, the "guiding star" could be a reference to a God or to some sort of religion.

B- This means that since Equality discovered the word "I", he won't be using the word "we" like he used to. He considers it a past part of his life.

These quotes can be applied to my life by thinking of past parts of my life that I have out out of my life and how the "guiding star" has helped me through it all.

    2. Equality learns his purpose of his life is to live his life the way he wants. He tired of being told what to do. He is free now and can make his own decisons. His goals is just to be happy and do what he wants.

  22. 2.) In this chapter Equality discovers what his meaning for life is and why he is alive. The reason is to become one, to be himself and not a group. He needs to serve himself for once instead up for his brothers with his brothers. He decided to quit listening to the council and start making decision for himself. He becomes his own new man.
3.) The word "I" is like a god to Equality. He sees it as a ruler and it's sets him apart from everything else because it is individual. In the society it was not teached so the word is unknown to most, but Equality learns it and is intrigued by its wonders.
    A. He hopes he makes the right decision but if he didn't it's still okay. Also, he hopes there is a god to help him on his way through.
    B. It states that we don't have to say something that we don't truly mean. Even if it would make others happy to lie to them.

  23. 1. In this chapter Equality discovers the word "I" and along with that he discovers individuality and freedom. He is finally able to become his own person and do what he likes instead of being part of a whole. Equality also chooses to banish the word "We" unless someone decides they want to use it (pg.96). He discovers the word while reading in a book from the Unmentionable Times. This was a great invention for Equality's society.

2.Equality finally learned that his purpose in life is to be an idividual and be different than everyone else. Equality realizes that being unique is not such a bad thing. He gets joy out of the fact that he is not the same as his brothers. It is good that Equality finally realized this.

    Honors:
a-This means that no matter where you go in ife you should always guide yourself, and to not let anyone else make that decision.
b-This means that you should always use "I" before "we"so you never forget your individualism.
Both of these quotes can be used in my life to help make me a better person. Quote A can be used if anyone tries to harm me by making me make a bad decision that could hurt me in the future. Quote B can be used to help me remember that I am unique, and it's bad to be like everybody else. Both of these quotes are teaching me to be a confident person and to not fall into peer pressure.Quote a and quote b are very good quotes that help me to become a better person than I am.

  24. 1. In this chapter Equality discovered the word "I". He says it is like a God. Equality also discovers that he can be himself and finally learns the feeling of freedom. He finds out that love is an emotion and not just a required feeling that they are told they feel toward their brothers in the society.
    4. The saint was trying to communicate the word "I" to Equality. The saint had already discovered the feeling of being an individual and he was trying to pass it on to someone else so they could feel the amazing feeling also. Equality has finally discovered the feeling of individuality and discovered the word "I"

Honors: a. To me this means that there is always a reason that you go somewhere. Whatever path that you life takes you on, there is reason that it took you there. Whether it is to teach you a life lesson or it is to get you to another path to teach you a different lesson.

b.In this, Equality is saying that the word "we" is now forbidden in his life because he has finally discovered individualism. He has found the greatest in it and he doesn't want that to be taken away from him.
Both of these quotes can be used in everyday life. The first one is saying that you always have a purpose. The second on is saying to always be yourself. You can apply both of these in a positive way to your own life.

  25. 1. In this chapter, Equality discovers the word “I”, and with this discovery he is fully realizing that he is not part of a larger society, but a single being. He is a singular person, and can do whatever he wants, because the only person with control over him is himself. Throughout the chapter, Equality uses singular pronouns like “me” and “I”, instead of plural pronouns like “we” and “us”. Equality states that he will never use “we” when referring to himself again. As discoveries in this book go, “I” is probably the best so far.

    2. Equality knows that being an individual isn’t bad. He makes his own decisions without fear of being controlled by the council. He makes himself happy simply by working, like when he gathers food. Equality thinks for himself, and pursues academic interests without being assigned to a certain job. The new point of Equality’s life is to live for himself, and to determine his own fate.

Honors- a) No matter what one does or where one goes, they can lead themselves to do whatever they want.

    b) The word “we” doesn’t need to be used when talking about oneself, because you are your own person.

Both of these quotes are like my life in one way or another. For quote A, it means that I can do what I want. I can grow up to be whatever I want, and take the classes I want, so that I can be whatever I want. As for quote B, It means that I can be myself. I’m not part of a whole, but rather a singular person that can control how the rest of my life will play out.

  26. 1) In this chapter Equality discovers the word "I". He finally realizes what the word "I" means also. He sees that he no longer has to be a group of people but himself. He is now an individual. Which means he is no longer apart of the society. He has control over himself, whatever it is he wishes to do. He makes the decisions and controls his future. Equality says in the chapter he will never use the word "we" when speaking his mind or thoughts that he does not share but are his own.

    2) Equality realizes the goal in his life is to be an individual. He sees that being unique is not a bad thing. He likes the thought of not being the same as his brothers. Equality is very happy that he is his own individual and now gets to decide his own fate.

Honors: quote a) No matter what choices I make or do, whatever you do is okay. The star will show you the path to what is right.

quote b) Everyone speaks their own mind and are their own individual

I think these quotes can be applied to my life because if I make a stupid decision I will eventually lead myself out of it. I choose my fate and no one else does. Also, I speak what I feel. Not what everyone else wants to hear, but what I want everyone to hear. I think that is how they apply to my life.

  27. 1) The great discovery Equality makes in this chapter is the word ‘I’ and the power it holds. He has discovered the power of individual will which means only he does what he wants to do without another person’s say-so. He has discovered the power of thinking for himself. The word “I” is powerful because gives a person power to do anything without the affect of a third party. That’s why the discovery of “I” is so important because it gives him something he didn’t have.
    3) Before the saint catches on fire he tries telling Equality the word “I”. The reader can tell it’s the world I because in knowing this word he was able to go in peace (p.50). The reader can also tell it’s “I” because that is the only word in the society that they don’t say. Therefore, that is the Unmentionable Word he got in trouble for. The reader can also assume it’s “I” because I can give people power and peace and I’m sure that’s what the “Saint” wanted Equality to know.
    Honors:
    a. I think what Equality means in this quote is that the guiding star is his mind. I think he’s saying that whatever path he goes on his heart will lead the way. B. In this quote Equality is saying that he alone will make his own decisions and for his own sake. I think that these quotes can be related to my life because they talk about following your heart and making your own decisions for yourself. I think these to quotes apply to everyone.

  28. 1. Equality makes many discoveries in this chapter. Most importantly, Equality discovers the forbidden word I. The council made this word forbidden because when people use I they are usually talking about themselves as an individual which is forbidden in the society. Another thing that Equality discovers is individuality which is very important in the book. Equality discovers that there are things that the council doesn’t control and figures out that he controls his own destiny.

    4. The Saint was trying to tell Equality of the unspeakable word. In pg. 50 the book says that he looked the happiest and calmest. The saint was as prideful as could be. The saint was supposedly trying to tell Equality the unspeakable word without sound. He knew that Equality was special and that he alone would be able to understand the unspeakable word. The saint knew that Equality would be able to understand the concept of individuality.

Honors: a. Equality states that the guiding star is within him. Equality means that he is able to choose what he does and he guides himself.
    b. When Equality says We must never be spoken except by choice and as a second thought, he means that everyone should have a choice in being a part of a group or being an individual.
These quotes can be applied to everyday life. Like what Equality states, everyone should guide themselves. Also, no one should be forced to do anything, especially not to think solely of others and they should always have a choice in everything that they do.

  29. 1.In this chapter Equality discovers individuality. This knowledge helps him to discover that he can be his own person, not just "we" and "they." With individuality come the gift of the word "I." (p.96) With this new word he can more easily discover what his life truly is about. He becomes his own person totaly, he is no longer one with his brothers, he is one with himself.

    2. Equality discovers that life is truly about self service. In his society he was always taught to serve and work for his brothers. He discovers that to lead a full life he must work for himself and not his socitey. He decides that he owes things only to himself, not to his brothers. (p.96) His friends have no power under or over him.

    Honors-
a.Equality both has to and gets to make his own decisions on how to live his life. No matter which route he chooses, his head and his heart will guide him on the correct path. There could also be a bit of spirituality in this quote, saying that a higher power compelles him to choose the correct path.
b.Equality feels that everyone should have the right to individuality. Only by choice should they classify themselves into a group of their choosing.
These quotes can be applied to my life in many ways. The first quote applies because it helps me to know that I am not alone on my decisions, and I am being guided by that which is right. Also, the second quote applies because nobody should ever be forced to do anything. While choices can be complicated and stressing at times, everyone deserves to have them.

  30. Equality discovers something great, his individuality. He learns that there is the word “I,” and he is able to use it. The rest of the world does not matter anymore; he makes decision on his own. He never knew of the word until he read it in a book of the Unmentionable Times. This discovery is even better than the discovery of electricity. It will change the ways of the society.
Equality now realizes what life is all about. It is not about the people around you, but of bettering yourself. The people around him have no meaning. He sets goals for himself, and then reaches them, only depending on himself. People must earn his love, and then he will care about them. That is what he now believes his life to be.
    A. No matter where life takes you, there will always be someone or something watching over you, leading you to something greater. If you are religious, it could be God, or a god. If not, it could just be knowledge. That is what I think that quote means.
    B. “We” means togetherness, and multiple people with the mindset of one. That is what Equality was trying to get away from. Therefore the new word to be used should be “I.”
These quotes can be used in almost everyone’s life. I can use them in my life to think more for myself. I sometimes let too many people influence my decision, so I’m not thinking as an individual. These can inspire to do more on your own, and be independent to be educated. What other people think doesn’t matter; it should be you and your own opinions.

  31. 1) Equality makes a discovery that has been waited on the entire book. He discovers the word "I". Equality decides that the word we is a word that will only be used when necessary and not first. He believes the word "we" is an evil that will take over a mans soul and body. Equality treats the word "I" like a god of some sort.

    2) Equality finds another more important purpose in life. He realizes that his purpose is to do more than just care for others. Equality finds that his purpose is to do things for himself and things that benefit towards him. His goals are similar to his purpose. His goal is to be happy and to stay that way.

    A) I believe the star is a sort of supernatural being. It guides you to your destination or your goals whether you know it or not.

    B) The word we would take away from being individual. It should be thought of as a second option because of this fact. The word we is used to describe a group or pair of people. Equality has tried his best to leave the society that forced him to use this word, so now he is making it known he is different.

These quotes could fit in with my life. The first one is like saying you should remember that you always have someone watching you. It would have a greater impact than the second quote. The next quote is telling you to be focused on what you do and not as a group. It relates to the fact that you should look at the things you've done for yourself and by yourself and be happy.

  32. Prompt #1: The great discovery that Equality discovers is “I”. Equality doesn’t just discover “I” but also he discovers self respect and independence. “I am man. This miracle of me is mine to own and keep, and mine to guard, and mine to use, and mine to kneel before! (pg. 95)” Throughout Equality’s journey throughout Anthem, he learns something new in each chapter. He gains of knowledge that there is smoothing that’s more powerful than men, and also he discovers to share is emotional love to the Golden One. Equality is equality.

Prompt #3: (pg. 97), “And now I see the face of god, and I raise this god over the earth, this god whom men sought since men come into being, this god who will grant them joy and peace and pride. This god, this one word: “I”. When Equality uses “I” for the first time, he feels something. He feels joy, peace, pride, and strong. “I” makes him feel like he’s the man in charge and takes control of his own life. Equality is his own man.

    Honors Prompt:
    A) This quote, in my opinion, means whatever path Equality takes, he will be guided along the way. When he stood up to the council, and went to the Uncharted Forest, something told him to go for it. His heart guided his way, which is the guiding star.

    B) In my opinion this quote defines to use it in the correct form. When using “We” use it as a group of people not just towards one person, not using individuality.

These two quotes regularly help in daily life. Quote A could help with challenges were you have two choices. Your heart will tell you what the right decision is. Quote B I have no relation to it. I am always my own individual.

  34. In this chapter, Equality uses for the first time, the word "I." Now, instead of focusing on "we", his previous obsession, his goal is to correlate his ego into every day life, caring more about his appearance. Also, "I" will improve his relationship with his soon-to-be newborn. The love of his life, Liberty, has understood his feelings better, translating emotions using I. Everyone makes their own decisions, and obviously Equality made the right one.

Equality discovered that being an individual is not a bad thing. He learned that it doesn’t necessarily matter if the rest of society doesn’t approve of the way you live your life. It is your life not theirs. He learned that the purpose of his own life is to find his own happiness. To make himself happy he must become his own person.
Honors: A. Honestly, I belive the guiding star is feeling the presence of God. I mean, with out him, how could Equality be who he is today? There obviously is a presence mixing in his emotions.

  35. 1. Equality makes the discovery of the word "I" and finally uses it. He now sees that he is an individual and that this great word shows that things only apply to him. He enjoys using this word because for the first time he can actually speak for himself. The more he uses this word the more he understands. When he chooses his path it makes him feel good because he's doing what he wants.

    3. "I" is like a god because you get to chooses what you want in life. Whatever you wish is granted and only you are in control. It is like a blessing because you get to do whatever it is you want, without other people judging you. Just by knowing the "I" many emotions will run thru you; like joy, freedom, happiness, relief, and pride. Once this word is uncovered nothing will ever be the same.

Honors A: I think it means that wherever you may be taken in life there will always be some type of guidence that lays within you.

B: I think it means that you should always you the word "I" before "we" because that shows individualism meaning that it's only what you want or think.

These can be used in my life becuase I can always remember to choose the path I feel is right. Also, I can remember that I'm an individual that makes only choices for myself.

  36. 1. Equality discovered the word i instead of refering to himself as we. Now that he figured out that he is now an individual. He no longer has to be a an equal to the rest of his brothers he can be whatever he wants. this word also represents his freedom from the society that he lived and the council that controlled it.Also this new word represents how he is his own person and makes his own decisions.

    2. equality found what his purpose in life was. This purpose was to become an individual and life his own not the one that the coucil gave him. Another thing that he realized was that becoming an individual was not a bad thing.

honors:A. I believe that the guiding star is the choices that we make in our eveyday life.
    B. i believe that this one represents that i should be used before we because it takes away a persons individualism.

i believe that these quotes are in our everyday lives because we make decisions everyday. This happens even if the decisions are big or small. also being an individual is a very important part of who you are and what makes you different.

  37. 1. Equality finally discovers the word "I."(pg.94) He has now discovered that things can be done on his own, and he doesn't have to discover things with others like in the Society. The Society which had operated with everyone together, focused him on calling himself "we." He also concludes that he doesn't owe anything to his brothers, nor does he have any grudge against them.(pg.96) At the end of the day, Equality has to be overjoyed that he can now live his life individually now.

    2. Now that Equality has discovered the word "I," he can now find that living individually is good and not bad. He is free to live his own life, and is no longer to be controlled by the Society. By breaking away from the Society, he has now found happiness.(pg.95) Equality will continue to live a happy life with Liberty for the years to come. I personally think that from the start, all Equality really wanted was happiness.

    Honors:
    A. The following quote means, wherever you go in life, you are the star and you guide your own life by the decisions you make.

    B. The following quote means, "we" shouldn't come before "I." Equality has already stated that he shall never use "we" again. It may also mean don't worry about others as much as you worry about yourself.

Both of these quotes are general terms of life. They both also aim towards a more individual lifestyle, which is what Ayn Rand preaches throughout the novel.

  38. 1. While reading a book to gain knowledge Equality discovers something great. He discovered the word "I".(Page 98) This is very good for him because it gives him another way to express his individuality. He no longer must refer to himself as we and he is his own person not just one of a group.

    2. Equality is now realizing his purpose in life. He is realizing he has potential. He knows now that he is his own person and can be as unique as he wants. He doesn't have to follow the rules of anyone and he can feel the way he wants.

Honors: A. You as an individual are in control of your life. The choices you make will determine your futer and where you end up.
    B. He means that I is the proper way to refer to yourself. I must come before We so you do not take away from yourself as an individual.
These quotes can be applied to your life in many ways. The decisions you make in your life are going to determine the outcome of your life and how you turn out. Following those decisons will also determine where you end up in life. I should always come before We because it keeps your idividualism. Everyone is unique in their own way so you must remember you are your own person and not someone who belongs to a group.

  40. Chapter 11

1.) Equality discovers the word “I” in chapter eleven. (pg. 94) The discovery is the final step in Equality’s quest for Individualism. Up until chapter eleven, Equality has continued to refer to himself as we to coincide with the egalitarian world he has always known; but here Equality refers to himself as I for the first time and thus becomes a complete individual. In our modern society, we do not realize the power of a word so common as I. The word I is in of itself the greatest example of individualism and Equality’s discovery of the word shows his final step in his personal quest of self discovery.

2.) Equality is experiencing a flood of revelations with his new discovery of the word I. In previous chapters, we were introduced to slight glimmers of a rising sense of self, but here in chapter eleven the progression his complete. With Equality’s discovery of individualism, he realizes that his only purpose in life is to do as he pleases. Equality realizes that he can choose his own future and does not have to conform to the world around him as he had to in the society. He is finally able to think freely and see what sets him apart from everyone else, what makes him who he is.

Honors: Equality states that “Whatever road I take, the guiding star is within me” and this is symbolic of another point in Equality’s journey of self discovery. Equality is trying to say that regardless of what he decides to do with his life, it is his decision and his decision alone. With his discovery of the word I, he realizes that he is the only one to decide his future and he can make his life whatever he wants it to be. Equality also states “For the word We must never be spoken, save by one’s choice and as a second thought.” Equality is trying to convey how extremely wrong the ideals of the society he previously lived in are. He realizes that everyone must have a sense of self or else the world has no uniqueness and is doomed to never advance. I find both of Equality’s new discoveries pertinent to my life. I am a firm believer that I have a great part in the control of my future and that the differences in the world are what makes the world advance.

  41. 1. Equality discovers the word "I."(pg.94) The word "I" gives both Liberty and Equality the chance to be themselves. The word "I" which was banned is what Saint of the Pyre was trying to tell him. Equality said that "We" must never be spoken, and that it is like a monster.(pg.96) Equality says he is done with the word "We."(pg.97)
    4. The Saint of the Pyre was trying to get the word "I" to the others. The Saint of Pyre looked happiest and calmest of all the faces there. The Saint of Pyre had already discovered the feeling of being an individual. Equality has finally discovered the feeling of having individuality. Equality finally becomes unique.
    Honors.
    A) The quote “Whatever road I take, the guiding star is within me.” shows how they choose their own paths. It says that wherever he goes his conscience will follow.
    B) This quote “For the word ‘We’ must never be spoken, save by one’s choice and as a second thought.” says that everyone is different. It also states that you don't need to use we when referring to yourself. It also says that everyone should speak their mind.

  42. Equality discovers the word “I” in this chapter. He decides that when using the word “we” it takes away your individuality. He is finally discovering that he can be independent and be his own person. There’s nobody telling him what to do and he can finally see the meaning of life.
Equality realizes that his purpose in life is to make himself happy. He doesn’t have to listen to anyone besides himself. All of his decisions should be for him and he doesn’t have to listen to anybody else. He shouldn’t be afraid to feel emotions like happiness, love, or hate.
    Honors:
    A) The quote “Whatever road I take, the guiding star is within me.” Means that wherever you go you will only find the importance of life in yourself. It’s like saying you have to power to control your life and if you get off track it’s your job to get yourself back. Your decisions can only be made by you and nobody else; you know what’s best for yourself
    B) The quote “For the word ‘We’ must never be spoken, save by one’s choice and as a second thought.” Basically means to focus on yourself. You must first help yourself before you can try to better others. It’s important that you put your needs before others.

  43. 1)In this chapter Equality discovers the word "I" which is huge for him. No longer refering to himself as we and using I instead is like a whole new world to him, he has gained more individuality. He has beaten the council, he is one.
2)Equality realizes that his purpose in life is to please, to please no one other than himslef. He is to make himslef happy, to feel things such as happiness, love, or joy. He now sees that his life is about him and nobody else.
Honors:Quote A)This quote means that no matter what you choose to do you will always know what is best for yourself. You know what you want and you do what you want. Your mistakes and your success is no ones fault but your own.
Quote B)This quote means to put yourslef first. You are your life, your life is all about you and about pleasing yourslef. You must think of yourself and put yourself first then think of others. If you aren't any good then you are no good to others.

  44. 1. Equality discovers the word I in this chapter. Equality understands the word's individuality of one person. Though the word I is important, Equality still understands the use of the word we. He knows to use we when talking of a group of many, and to use I for when he is individualizing himself (page 96). With this discovery, Equality can now further his knowledge with the use of individuality.
    2. Equality realizes that wanting to further himself as one isn't a bad thing. Equality was always taught to help all, not one. Now Equality is beginning to see that he can think of just himself sometimes without being a bad person. Thinking of himself sometimes can actually advance many more than just him. He can now understand a feeling of self pride in one.
Honors: Both of these quotes relate to advancing in life. Quote A tells that even if you make a wrong decision, you can always do well by not giving up. Quote B explains that one can stand up for their opinion, without having to agree with all the others. It gives yourself a strong base to stand your reasons, rather than needing the approval of others. If people would use these quotes, they would feel more self pride in their opinions and not seek for other's approval.

  45. Within these two quotes is meaning towards the book. Quote A in my opinion is saying, no matter what path you are put on you always have something inside you guiding you through it. Not only this but you will find other ways around a bad path to find true happiness. As of for the second quote I feel this means the word should not be spoken but if you choose to use it then so be. Yet the main thought should not be set on "we" it should only be a second

  46. 1. Equality discovers the word “I”. He uses for the first time in this chapter and expresses his individuality. He realizes that he is his own person instead of a whole of people. Equality finally understands that he lives for himself not for his brothers, and using “we” should only be used properly and not in place of “I” (p.96). Equality now knows he is in control of his own life and he can do what he wants with it.
    2. Equality learns that his goal in life is to serve himself. He is used to serving others alongside his brothers. He understands that he is an individual, which means he is able to make choices and decisions about his own life. Since his life seemed planned by the Council Equality may not know the consequences of good or bad decisions. He has learned to be happy in life you must make yourself happy because counting on someone else to make you happy will result in failed happiness.
    Honors:
    a) The guiding star in my eyes would have to be God or something to do with what you strongly believe, but it means that you make your own way through life doing what you enjoy.
    b) The word “we” is not as important as “I” in our modern day society. I do not have to use the word “we” unless I am referring to a group of people and myself, but otherwise I am my own person therefore I say “I”.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 1) Equality discovers one of the forbidden words in this chapter."I" This is also uses it for the first time also. Another thing that he discovers is freedom. He is free from the tyrannical rule of the council. Along with that he is now experiencing the ability to live the way he wants to with out anyone else judging him.

    2) I think that Equality realizes that the proper goal in life is what HE whats to do. It's not what someone else thinks. Then tells him is the proper goal. The purpose of his life, is the same concept as before. In Equality's case, his purpose in life now is to try and teach his fellow brothers what he has learned. Then with them on his side, rise up against the council.

These quotes have very special meanings. Quote A is saying that no matter what you do in your life or where you go, you are the one that chooses where you go. You are the star that guides yourself. Quote B is saying that you are your own person. You don't have to be apart of any group you don't want to. It is your choice whether or not you want to.

  48. 1. Equality discovers the word "I"they word never to be spoken in the Society. He found that he didn't have to do things for everybody but he could live for himself alone. Now he discovers another time of freedom. This is where i truly believe he let go of everything and started living. Like being reborn.

2.Equality finally understands the goal is to live for HIMSELF and not to worry about other people. Don't care about what other people are doing or saying. He can't keep this to himself he has to let his brothers understand this profound freedom.

HONORS:Quote A is talking about letting us lead our paths. Don't base your life on someone else, just live for yourself. Do whatever we want, go wherever we want.Quote B is talking about you. Be yourself, be original. If you want to be apart of a group of click YOU decided that and nobody else.
